Whether it is the excitement of the Imperial War Museum at Duxford or Colchester Zoo, families have plenty of things to do on holiday in the East of England. Norfolk is an ideal family holiday destination in the East of England. Local attractions include the North Norfolk Steam Railway, The Shire Horse Centre, Seal Trips from Morston and the Norfolk Broads. Not to mention the beautiful family friendly coast in Norfolk. Overstrand, a crab fishing village just to the east of Cromer, has safe sandy beaches which are ideal for young children to build sand castles, play beach cricket and football or hunt for crabs The village first came to prominence when the 19th century pastime of sea bathing came into fashion. Regular visitors included The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Marlborough, Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill. As a result of several rich and prominent persons building their country houses in Overstrand, it became known as "the village of millionaires".

Suffolk is equally a great family holiday destination in the East of England. Kersey is a walkers and cyclists paradise for those so inclined, with several country pubs within walking distance. The Suffolk coast offers places too numerous to mention but Aldeburgh, Southwold and Felixstowe are worth exploring. Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge reveals an ancient Saxon burial site, and Lavenham, Long Melford and Colchester have medieval houses, antique shops, Roman remains, and a zoo between them. Flatford Mill is where Constable painted The Haywain and several of his other famous paintings, there is a superb collection of Gainsborough's work in Sudbury in the house where he was born, and Munnings house and paintings can be seen in Dedham.
