Idyllic ‘chocolate box’ thatched cottage that sleeps 8 in the most picturesque medieval village of Kersey with its village pottery and ancient ford together with resident ducks right by the pub. This 15th century Grade 2 listed detached cottage is Tourist Board 5 star and Suffolk award winning best self-catering establishment 2009. There are exposed beams in every room, inglenook fireplaces, lead-light windows, bread oven, and old brick floors. There is a playhouse in the secluded and secure English country garden, and ample garden furniture, a BBQ and 2 terraces for informal summer dining. We have won Suffolk Best Self Catering Establishment 2 years in a row in 2009 and 2010.

Old as the cottage might be the accommodation is modern. There are 4 large bedrooms that sleep 8 comfortably with linen and towels provided, 3 bathrooms, sitting room, dining room, fully fitted kitchen/breakfast room, laundry room, central heating, dishwasher, freezer, washing machine and dryer. A cot and highchair are available on request. Indoor entertainment includes stereo, TV, freeview, DVD, video, ipod player/charger and WiFi connection. There are some indoor games and a garage provides car space or secure storage for bikes. There is a Health Centre and Beauty Salon at Kersey Mill only half a mile away, and a local independent Catering Service can provide meals at the house.

Kersey is a walker’s and cyclist’s paradise for those so inclined, with several country pubs within walking distance. The village pub is only 200 yards down the road does good pub food and is very child friendly with small separate dining rooms if required. The Suffolk coast offers places too numerous to mention but Aldburgh, Southwold and Felixstowe are worth exploring. Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge reveals an ancient Saxon burial site, and Lavenham, Long Melford and Colchester have medieval houses, antique shops, Roman remains, and a zoo between them. Flatford Mill is where Constable painted The Haywain and several of his other famous paintings, there is a superb collection of Gainsborough’s work in Sudbury in the house where he was born, and Munnings house and paintings can be seen in Dedham. Old Drift House is a lovely home from which to explore all of this, or to just stay put and relax in quiet and splendid comfort.
