Reybenet is a restored Perigord Farmhouse located near the small hamlet of La Peyre. It is situatated on the side of a wooded valley in a secluded position with spectacular views. The nearest small town Thenon is five kilometers away. The house is surrounded by seven acres of fields and woods and is approached by a made-up single track road that is very quiet. The house has traditional shutters on all windows and doors for added security and shade.
The front door leads into the sitting room, which measures approximately 30' by 16'. It is a comfortable room with sofas, carpet, curtains, easy chairs and exposed beams. At one end is the original Inglenook fireplace and the dining area is at the far end. The kitchen leads off the sitting room. It has recently been renovated, but we have retained the original "bread oven" as the centrepiece. There is a gas cooker, large fridge along with all the necessary pots, pans and utensils. The farmhouse has TV (not Sky), DVD player, cot and highchair if required.
The downstairs double bedroom has a fitted carpet, curtains, 5' double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe. A spiral staircase from the dining area leads upstairs to the first floor. There are two twin bedded rooms and a bathroom with separate toilet. The bathroom has a small bath, shower and basin. There is a washing machine for clothes. The first floor was completely renovated and refurbished in Spring 2011.
On the south side of the house there is a leafy vine which provides welcome shade for the outside table. This is a glorious spot for lunch on a hot summer's day, or a candlelit dinner under the stars. There are terraces to the west and north. The charcoal barbeque is very popular and has all the necessary tools.
A short distance from the house is the private swimming pool, which is irregular in shape. It measures 10 x 5 metres. There is a shallow end and a deep end. Besides the pool are loungers, a table and chairs. A hammock between the trees nearby has proved very popular for that siesta after lunch. The sunset can be spectacular.
There is a book at the house listing various places of interest, but if you are touring you will need guide books and the Michelin map (number 75). The Dordogne is a famous gastronomic region of France and there are numerous excellent restaraunts within easy reach. Underground caves abound; the most famous being the Lascaux Caves at Montignac (15 minutes by car). The underwater river and caves at Gouffre de Padirac are well worth visitng. Each town in the area has its own market day (Thenon is Tuesday).
For the more adventurous, try a canoe trip down the River Vezere, or just simply explore the peaceful and beautiful countryside nearby.
