RECOMMENDED FAMILY HOLIDAYS IN LANGUEDOC, PROVENCE & COTE D'AZUR IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE
The South of France covers two regions - Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur and Languedoc. The Cote D'Azur is a region that runs from the Med up to the Alps and is therefore a very popular tourist destination in both the summer and the winter for family holidays. Squeezed between the sunburned plateau of the Var to the west and the soft mountains on the Italian side of the border to the east, the Alpes-Maritimes is primarily well-known for its coast, which is the most varied in the south of France. There are cliffs, shingle stones, broad sandy beaches and enchanting bays, fashionable Riviera cities like Nice and Cannes, splendid marinas with their yachts, luxury hotels - and the fashionable life on the coast. But the Alpes-Maritimes is also something else, the hectic French Riviera has a peaceful and at some places completely deserted hinterland with fantastic natural scenery and idyllic medieval villages.
With its Mediterranean climate, Languedoc is the lesser-known region of the south of France which hides a beautiful landscape and plentiful history. What a wonderful place for a family holiday. Bordered by the huge peaks of the Pyrenees, the heavily perfumed herb filled fields of Provence and the rugged landscape of the mountains and gorges of the Massif Central and just a short hop for a day trip to Spain. It is simply the perfect holiday destination with long, hot, sunny summers, excellent beaches, thousands of miles of walks and cycle paths, National Parks, castles, caves, rivers and lakes.
