Pet Friendly self catering holiday cottage in County Donegal - Upper Killult, Falcarragh, County Donegal, West Ireland

Property Summary (IR13)

This self catering holiday cottage is a lovingly restored pet friendly traditional Irish cottage overlooking Ballyness estuary on Donegal’s beautiful northwest coast. We have two large double bedrooms and a single with a shower room upstairs and bathroom downstairs. There is a modern kitchen including dishwasher, washer/dryer and sitting room with freesat TV, DVD with a wide selection of films and kids toys including pedal gokart. There is an enclosed back garden with sand pit, BBQ and picnic area. The cottage is situated just 1 km from the sea up a quiet lane.

The best beaches in Europe are the main attraction here with windsurfing lessons and hire available at Jaws watersports, Dunfanaghy. There is pony trekking at Dunfanaghy stables, fishing all round the coast and in the streams and lakes, soft play area for those rainy days in Gweedore, and the farm and play area at the Dunlewy centre.

The cottage built around 120 years ago is just outside Falcarragh Ireland's largest Irish speaking town . Here there is a superb market every Friday while the town also has 4 small supermarkets, off licences, gift shops an ATM and of course a selection of pubs with nightly entertainment.

It is a short drive from numerous pristine sandy beaches including Tramore, Ballyness and Marble Hill. Muckish mountain is just four miles from the cottage and a two hour walk to the summit affords spectacular views from The Rosses in the south across the Bloody Foreland and Tory Island to the Inishowen peninsula towards Irelands most northerly point Malin Head.

Horse riding available at Dunfanaghy and in the summer a surf shop and school has been opened. Glenveagh Castle set in 40,000 acres of mountains, glens and woodland is nearby as is Doe Castle built in the 16th century by the MacSweeneys.

The 600ft sea cliffs around Horn Head are some of the highest in Europe and we can arrange the ultimate way to experience them with a boat trip which takes you within 20 feet of the base of these. You can look up to see Guillemots, Fulmars and Razorbills soaring above while Puffins skim past and you may be lucky enough to spot grey seals, porpoises and basking sharks.

To travel from the UK to Ireland, you might wish to travel by ferry - Irish Ferries run a daily crossing on the following routes: Holyhead to Dublin, Pembroke to Rosslare in addition they also run crossings from France to Ireland - Roscoff to Rosslare and Cherbourg to Rosslare - click here for more information on booking a ferry crossing to Ireland

Rating 5 out of 5 - Fantastic cottage - Jenga Birmingham - Date of Stay: February 2009
Having just spent a long weekend at the cottage, I can honestly say that it was a superb place. The cottage is beautifully restored but still has the modern facilities (dishwasher,d.v.d player, Heating!) to make it a comfortable place to relax, after days out exploring. The cottage is situated in a great location for people who like walking as there is a national park nearby, but its also ideal for people loooking for a secluded sandy beach to chill out on, we visited in Feb, so it wasn't quite the sunbathing weather but the costal areas were pretty breathtaking even at that time of year. The cottage has lots of books about the surrounding area, which is really useful as it gives you some good ideas about what to do whilst there. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break away from it all.

Rating 5 out of 5 - Best beaches in the world! - Fishmilla Devon - Date of Stay: August 2009
Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September. Before we unlocked the door I was warned "look, it might not be like what it looked like on the website", but it was! We weren't too lucky with the weather but still climbed Errigal, caught fish off the rocks (and had them for tea) walked for hours every day on magnificent beaches and every night saw another amazing sunset. We also sat on our backsides in front of the turf fire or round the table in the beautiful has-everything kitchen and slept in cosy beds listening to the rain and wind outside. We had a most relaxing holiday (and am not often given to climbing mountains just cos they're there) in a handsomely designed and equipped pet friendly self catering holiday cottage in Donegal, and I am looking forward to getting back as soon as possible.

Rating 4 out of 5 - Lovely Donegal base in Falcarragh - Jim Ayrshire - Date of Stay: July 2009
Stayed in this cottage in July and had a very nice time. Myself my wife and daughter and 2 grandchildren. House was really comfortable and had every facility we needed. Especially enjoyed the turf fire, and although we didn't need it for the heat still lit it most nights for the atmosphere. Well equiped kitchen plenty of towels etc. Even games and books, a real home from home.

Rating 5 out of 5 - Pet friendly Holiday Cottage, Donegal - Aoife Dublin Dublin - Date of Stay: May 2009
We had a wonderful time in the holiday Cottage. We happened to get great weather and took the owner's advice re Marble Hill beach and absolutely fell in love. The cottage is beautiful – the owners have thought of everything. It is in a location that is within close proximity to so many attractions. We mainly spent our time at the many different beaches in the surrounding area. And of course there is the wild & beautiful Glenveigh National Park. I will most definitely be returning to this beautiful cottage.

Rating 5 out of 5 - The Perfect Taste of Ireland - Chazglen Ashton, MD, USA - Date of Stay: January 2009
Just up from the Falcarragh Strand -- where the sea rolls in regimental perfection and giant perfectly formed waves arc and plunge into foam as they make their long journey to the shore -- Laurel Cottage sits high on a hill. At any time of the year (our group of 5 adults and one baby went in January) the comforts of the house are impervious to anything that might be going on outside since the more than one foot thick walls provide a gentle transition from whatever the weather might throw at you. It is truly the best of both worlds since it offers the antiquity of exposed stone walls, deep soaking tubs and a peat-burning fireplace as well as all the modern conveniences you could possibly imagine... yes, even a flat screen television and DVD player. Whenever we thought we might need something, we found that the house already had it! The town of Falcarragh is wonderful and boasts great pubs, shopping and an open air market where local produce is sold. If you want to feel like you're getting away from it all but still have IT ALL very close by, this is the perfect place. Thank you, Mark, for one of our best holidays!
