The Mill 3 bed Self Catering Family Holiday Cottage is located in Abercych - about 5 miles from Cardigan and the dramatic Pembrokeshire Coastline, the Coastal Path and beautiful beaches. We love it; and we live here in this beautiful Pembrokeshire valley. There are 14 acres to lose yourselves in; you can sit in the gardens or wander on the banks of the Afon Cych and unwind. There is a local village pub if you don't fancy cooking every night. When you feel ready to explore further afield, you are in one of the most dramatic and varied of British counties. From our location in the north of the county you can reach anywhere in Pembrokeshire, and in fact the whole west Wales coast from Borth, north of Aberystwyth, round to the Gower peninsula and Swansea in less than an hour.
The self catering family holiday cottage available is called Y Ffwrn which is Welsh for 'The Forge' and we think the building dates back at least 200 years. We know the building was once used as a corn mill. Apparently, the restored 17th-century working corn mill in Cenarth (about 3 miles away) is almost identical to how ours used to be. There are rumours that, even before this, when Cilgerran Castle was built, the suits of armour were cast here. We have our doubts about this - but we do keep finding clinker when we dig. The waterwheel survived - it can be seen in the photo - and one of the grinding wheels is incorporated into the patio area.
Y Ffwrn (3 beds) accommodates six people comfortably; and we can supply a cot if required. The cottage has gas central heating throughout and walls that are two feet thick, so even out of season it's a lovely, warm, cozy getaway.
You enter the cottage through the modern kitchen with full-sized electric cooker & hob, microwave, toaster, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher as well as pots, pans, cutlery and crockery for your stay.
The lounge/dining area is light and spacious with patio doors leading out to the garden and a delightful slate fireplace. We offer satellite TV (family pack selection of channels), DVD/CD player, sofas, dining table and chairs. There's an electric stove which can be used to boost the heating. It's glow setting emulates a coal fire very cleverly and gives a lovely cosy feeling to the room. Also on the ground floor there is a bedroom with bunk beds and en-suite with wc and basin.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a large feature window overlooking the gardens and valley. The easterly view through the picture window takes in the dawn, our gardens and the valley. The hill opposite is actually in Carmarthenshire; the Cych denotes the boundary, because we are in Pembrokeshire. Look out of the window to the left and you can see hills in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire) about a mile away.
The third bedroom has two single beds. A modern bathroom with corner bath, spacious separate shower, wc and basin completes the facilities.
Outside, Y Ffwrn has a built-in barbecue and patio area with garden furniture. One dog is welcome at this pet friendly holiday cottage. However, please be aware we have geese, sheep, chickens, ducks, cows, dogs, cats, horses, some unfenced ponds, unfenced steep banks and unfenced riverbanks on our property. While we take every precaution to ensure your safety, there are risks involved in staying with us and you must take care at all times, especially if there are children in your party, |
